Why Makueni RFC withdrew from Nationwide League

Makueni RFC has had to withdraw from Nairobi nationwide league due to financial challenges, captain Kennedy Munyao told Raga House.

Makueni RFC were to kick-off the 2019/20 Nairobi nationwide league, club’s category, against Comras on Sat Oct 26 but that will not be the case.

“We’ve been forced to withdraw from the 15s league because of financial challenges. We shall however be available to play sevens during the national sevens circuit," said Munyao.

“Our County government of Makueni can only fund sevens. Those who want to join other teams for the season can do so.”

Makueni are replaced by Stingers RFC in the clubs category. Stingers played in the Universities last season due to their affiliation with MKU University but have since parted ways.

MKU Nairobi will now have a team at the Universities category taking up Stingers’ slot.

Matchday 1 will see Stingers play Comras at home while MKU Nairobi will host Strathmore II.

Stingers train at Mean Machine’s UoN grounds while MKU Nairobi have their training base at Railways club.
