Raga House has learnt that poor condition of Kisii University pitch lead to cancellation of a Championship match between hosts Kisii RFC and Egerton Wasps on match-day 9 of the 2018/19 regular season, Sat Feb 9, 2019.
The visitors, Egerton Wasps, got a 24-0 walkover from Kisii - for only their fourth win this term - after seeing the poor state of the pitch as Walter Orangi of Kisii says. The gift win saw the Wasps rise to playoff spot six in the standings with 17 points, one within fifth placed Masinde Muliro University.
This is the second walkover Kisii have given out in the 2018/19 season after doing so to South Coast Pirates just before the Enterprise Cup weekend on Saturday 26 January, 2019. They now drop to ninth with 14 points.
Kisii are now 19 points off Championship leaders Western Bulls and three adrift of Egerton who occupy the last playoff slot. +1 point (to make it 5) is awarded for walkover in favor of winning team while the giving team is deducted two points.
Kisii head to a crucial two weeks as their next match is a trip to Nairobi to take on USIU before hosting Catholic Monks on Feb 23. There are up to 10 match days remaining in the Championship including the knockouts. Four of those are trips to Nairobi, Kitale, Kisumu and Masinde Muliro University.
Kisii president Walter Orangi revealed to Raga House that they are currently looking for new sponsors after their deal with Resolution expired in 2018.
