Kenya Rugby Union will announce a new Kenya 7s coach this week to fill the slot left by New Zealander Paul Feeney who left after Vancouver 7s- at the onset of COVID 19 pandemic.
KRU has shortlisted four candidates who Raga House understand are 2018 Kenya 7s coach Paul Murunga, Innocent Simiyu who coached in 2016 and 2017, KCB 7s coach and former Kenyan international Dennis Mwanja.
The fourth candidate is Nick Wakley -who coached won Safari 7s in 2014 as Welsh Warriors coach and in 2015 as Samurai International coach.
Star Newspaper reports that KRU director of rugby, Thomas Odundo, said interviews were done two weeks ago and decided on the successful candidate will be announced either by end of the week or the first week of September.
The paper further reports that sources hinted that KRU is likely to settle for a local coach to cushion the Union from paying high salaries to a foreign coach.
