Kisii RFC and Western Bulls suffered defeats on the road in the sixth round of the 2018/19 Championship going down to Mombasa and Catholic Monks respectively.
Kisii lost 10-5 to Mombasa RFC as Bulls went down 27-10 to Catholic Monks in a top three clash on Saturday Jan 12.
Mombasa trailed Kisii 0-5 at the interval after flanker Kevin Odhiambo had gone gone over but they managed to put up a strong show in the second half to score the winning 10 points.
Gabriel Makatiani went over for Mombasa with Elias Gitonga adding the conversion as well as a three-pointer.
Catholic leapfrogged Bulls to second now with 23 points. Caleb Kiproitich, Maxwell Omondi and Newton Wasike scored for Monks in the second half with Breham Namisi's fourth and bonus try coming in the 65th minute which Wasike converted. Prop Willies Mwinamo scored Bulls' try that was converted by Derrick Ashiundu who also scored a penalty.
Kisii, who picked a losing bonus, do not drop from fourth since Kisumu lost.
This means USIU go two points clear, at 25, after an 18-10 win over Kisumu RFC in Nairobi.
