The inaugural Varsity League kicked off on Saturday with eight sides taking part at the University of Nairobi.
Catholic Monks were the only side to pick a bonus win courtesy of their 44-14 win over TUK and doing so with three clear tries and go top in pool B with five points.
The other pool match saw hosts University of Nairobi(Mean Machine) come from behind to beat UoE Trojans 27-18 and earn four points to sit second after matchday 1.

Pool A saw Blak Blad denied a bonus as they beat JKUAT Cougars 23-14. They scored three tries but JKUAT were able to squeeze in a try at the very end to deny KU. Blad lead in pool A with four points due to a good points difference with Egerton, who beat TUM Marines 12-11, coming second also with four points.
TUM picked losing points to sit third while JKUAT are fourth with a point after matchday 1.
The Varsity League moves to Catholic University on October 6 where the hosts open the matchday against UoE at 10am followed by Egerton vs JKUAT. Blad will play TUM while the last match of the day with be a City derby between Mean Machine and TUK.
