USIU cemented their place at the top of KRU Championship as they beat Kisumu RFC 18-10 in the sixth round of the 2018/19 season at home.
USIU ran in two tries via Eliud Mulla and Fred Okoth with Okoth converting one and scoring two penalties. Maurice Osano scored Kisumu’s try that was converted by Lenny Obiero who also scored a penalty.
From the four points bagged, USIU now have 25 points, two above second placed Catholic University. Kisumu stay fifth with 16 points, two above sixth placed Ngong RFC.
Just like he expected, Kisumu RFC head coach Howard Okwemba said “it was a hard game. We played our hearts particularly in the last half hour. The yellow cards we accrued also affected us as we played for large spells of the game with 14 men.”
“It is a key learning for the boys should make them rise to the occasion in our next outing,” he was quoted by the club’s Twitter handle.
Ngong beat Kitale RFC 19-10 to bag four points with the latter dropping to 11th after the defeat coupled by UoE’s win at Egerton.
