The most unpredictable match in the Nationwide semis will be between MKU Nairobi and Egerton Wasps on Saturday May 6, 2017.
These are two sides that have had a wonderful season which can be compared to Leicester City’s run in English football in 2016. Unexpected.
No one would have predicted that these sides will stand a chance to be promoted to Championship league but they now have destiny in their own hands.
Wasps beat Citam Kisumu 16-8 while MKU saw off TUM Marines 13-10 in the quarters. Winner of Saturday’s clash will qualify for Championship league as well sail through to Nationwide final.
Wasps finished fourth in the Rift Valley Nationwide league but won the semis and final while MKU Nairobi topped the Universities category in the Nairobi regional before travelling to Coast to dismantle TUM Marines.
Nairobi regional league is considered as the most competitive in the Nationwide but will MKU Nairobi use that experience to their advantage or will Wasps pull their triple A game?
Loser still stands a chance of a Championship promotion as they will go to playoffs with JKUAT Cougars and Thika RFC who finished in position nine and 10.
Both sides have a strong financial backing from their institutions as these are varsity sides hence they will be able to honor matches but the question remains who will sleep on Saturday as a Championship side?
