The Ukunda’s South Coast Pirates extended their lead atop the Coast Region Nationwide League after picking their fourth straight win at the weekend by bringing down hosts Shepherds 3-50 at the Mombasa Sports Club.

In the Saturday clash, initially planned for 12 December but brought forward – to be the only league game played at the weekend, Pirates led 3-36 at the break before topping up the tally to hit the half century mark at the close of the second half.

Several changes

According to Coach David Nolan, the huge result was borne out of good preparations and organization ahead of, and in the game.

“We won the game easily as we were organized. We had prepared for it well and my boys played very well” said the Dublin-born Coach to ragahouse.com

“We had a good first half leading 36-3 at half time after landing six tries but we made several changes in the second half to give a chance to the younger players” he added

Next up for South Coast Pirates is a clash with Malindi RFC at Ukunda Showground next weekend, one that Nolan sees yet another victory

Habid Nzunga

“They are a good side, we played them last year and beat them. I see no reason why we should not beat them again” he concluded confidently

in their big win over Shepherd, Outside Centre Habid Nzunga landed a hat trick of tries while eighth man Benjamin Bighi grounded two tires.

Scrum half Kevin Amiani also dotted down twice while Flanker Alfan accounted for one try. Hooker Collo converted five of the eight tries.
