Focus will be on back to back champions Uganda sevens during this weekend’s Africa 7s in Tunisia.
With 2015 champions Kenya 7s making a return, Uganda head coach Tolbert Onyango named a strong 12-man squad that will seek title defence in Tunisia.
Skipper Michael Wokorach leads the team to Tunisia with the likes of Kabras Sugar winger Philip Wokorach, Kenya Harlequin’s duo of Solomon Okia and Aaron Ofoyrwoth also named.
“We have Kenya and Namibia coming back to the event so it will be tougher (but) we are going for it and the team has good experience having been to the World Cup early this year,” Wokoraqch told Kawowo Sports at the flag-off of the team.
Onyango has retained most of the face that featured at the World Cup in San Francisco but named three new players that will be making their debuts.
Kobs’ back Ian Munyani as well as Pirates’ duo of Isaac Massa and Harunah Muhammad who were instrumental for the Sea Robbers in the National Sevens Series triumph are the new players on board.
Africa 7s winner will secure an invitation for Dubai 7s and Cape Town 7s legs of the HSBC World Sevens Series. They will be joined by runners-up at the World Sevens Series qualifier tournament at Hong Kong 7s in April 2019.
Uganda are in pool B alongside Senegal and Ghana.
