Kenya 7s will hope to defeat Ireland in the last pool match to stand a chance to qualify for the quarterfinals of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics after losing their second game 14-5 to South Africa on Monday afternoon.

Kenya had lost 19-14 to the USA in their opening game and needed a decent result against the Blitzboks who punished them often in the breakdowns.

South Africa led 14-5 at the interval courtesy of opening tries by Selvyn Davids and Shakes Soyizwapi bouncing off would-be defenders. Kenya pulled one back through veteran Collins Injera but there were no points on board for either side in the second half.

The top two teams will be joined by two best losers in the quarterfinals. Kenya's next match is against Ireland on Tuesday at  5 am.
