John Aluda Beda will make his long-awaited return this weekend during the Driftwood 7s in Mombasa.
Beda was one of the outstanding players in the 2016 national sevens circuit helping Kabras Sugar win Christie 7s. He went ahead to receive a Kenya sevens call up but an injury prevented him from making further progress.
New coach Charles Cardovillis has included him in the 13-man traveling squad that will kick-off the new campaign in Mombasa.
Malik Habil captains the side with former Kenya Harlequins star Felix Ayange being his assistant.
Kenya 7s international Daniel Sikuta is named in the squad but Brian Tanga misses out. Uganda Cranes fullback Philip Wokorach is in the squad so is Jacob Okumba, Johnstone Mungau, Isaiah Mulongo and Fidel Oloo.
Kabras Sugar are in pool D with Strathmore Leos, Nondies and KCA.
In last year’s Driftwood 7s, Kabras Sugar finished fourth after losing 19-12 to Strathmore Leos in the third-place playoffs. They had beaten lost 19-12 to Homeboyz in the semis. They were 8-5 victorious over Impala in the quarters after bagging 34-0, 35-0 and 19-12 wins over Kisumu RFC, Daystar Falcons and Kenya Harlequins respectively.
