Strathmore Leos are set to resume training on Thursday, January 7, 2021, ahead of Championship playoffs later this month.
Raga House understands teams set for Championship playoffs have been advised to prepare to play the ties on Saturday, Jan 23, 2021, then semifinals on Saturday, Jan 30.
Two semifinals winners will be promoted to the Kenya Cup that will likely start on Saturday, Feb 13, 2021.
Only two matches will be played to determine the two finalists who will be promoted to the Kenya Cup. No winner will be determined thus no need to play the cup final.
Strathmore Leos won the regular season on 76 points to book a home semifinal against either USIU or Northern Suburbs while MMUST finished second on 67 to book either Mean Machine or Egerton Wasps in semis.
Head Coach Louis Kisia confirmed training will resume on Thursday evening at Strathmore University sports complex, Madaraka.
“We are resuming training today (Thursday) since everyone is available. We’ll conduct training in batches in respect to return to play protocols provided by World Rugby and Kenya Rugby Union.”
“We have a short time to prepare but we’ll use the available time to the maximum to ensure we are well prepared for our game.”
“The spirit we had before the break is still there but this is a whole new situation because of the break we’ve had. Both Suburbs and USIU have had an exceptional season and are equally good. It’s down to our decision making because it’s just one game.”
“I know my boys are up to the task and we’ll be ready.”
Semifinal winners will replace Western Bulls and Kisumu RFC who relegated from Kenya Cup.
