Strathmore Leos dare to dream

Is it possible? Can it really happen? Can Strathmore Leos down Kabras Sugar and qualify for the Kenya Cup final?

A miracle may be needed for Leos to beat Kabras Sugar in Kakamega but head coach Louis Kisia is confident heading to Lurambi after two seasons of hard work in the Kenya Cup since their promotion from the Championship.

"The boys are upbeat and the mood is ecstatic, ready to fire from all cylinders," said Kisia.

Strathmore Leos finished the regular season at fourth place on 29 points after winning six in 11 matches. Two seasons ago Leos were relegated to the Championship but are now back to the Kenya Cup as traditional powerhouses Impala and Nondies struggle with the two suffering humiliating relegation blows

"This is the second season after promotion and a second semifinal in a row. From where I sit the boys are ready to upset the apple cart."

Leos face a Kabras Sugar side that has been to every semifinal since 2014. This is not a hill but mountain for the Madaraka based made up of young, energetic University lads.

"Yes, that's in order(On Kabras being a regular semifinalist). But that notwithstanding, this is sport and whoever comes to the party on game day carries the day. They will  use their marauding forwards to gain momentum but we will match them and bank on our fitness," added Kisia.

Loose-head Gabriel Adero will captain Leos with Tony Kaiko the day's tight-head. Brunson Madigu and Elton Amalemba are on the wing, Joseph Ayiro at fullback while first five-eighth Patrick Kluivert is joined by Richard Liva at midfield.

Kisia will call the experience of Philemon Olang, Maxwell Atera, Wiseman Aganya, Festus Shiasi and Gideon Makumi from the bench.

The 3 pm kick-off in Kakamega will be officiated by Duncan Kioko with Victor Oduor and Beryl Akinyi named as assistant referees. The winner between Kabras and Strathmore will face KCB or Menengai Oilers in the final.
