Homeboyz II lost an appeal it had lodged with the Kenya Rugby Union over alleged fielding of ineligible players by Strathmore Leos II during their Mwamba Cup semifinal on Saturday April 28, 2018.
The appeal delayed the Mwamba Cup final between Strathmore - KCB by a week from Saturday 5 May. It will now proceed on Saturday 12 May at the Impala Club starting 3pm.
Homeboyz had complained that Strathmore II fielded 15 players who, in the weekend before their Mwamba Cup semi, had been named to play in the Enterprise Cup quarterfinal against Nakuru RFC, a match that Nakuru were awarded a walkover due to the state of Strathmore's pitch.
Simon Odongo, Homeboyz team manager, argues that if the 15 players were named to play against Nakuru in the Enterprise Cup, they are therefore ineligible to play in the Mwamba Cup.
"The Union said these 15 players are ineligible because the game against Nakuru was not played but the match sheet reads Nakuru 24 Strathmore 0 so there is a result. They have set a very bad precedence where one can now abandon Enterprise Cup and go on to play Mwamba Cup with the same players."
Strathmore II beat Homeboyz II 8-0 in the said match with Gideon Makumi scoring a penalty and Gabriel Adero bagging a try.
Strathmore II was to play KCB II in the final last Saturday at Impala Club but the game was called off after Homeboyz lodged the appeal. KRU has now stated the match will go on as planned this coming Saturday.
