This comes months after Sportpesa pulled out of rugby sponsorship in Kenya where they were the headline sponsor of Kenya Rugby Union and sponsor of Kenya Harlequins.

Since Sportpesa pulled out, the Kenya 7s have not received their bonuses while the Simbas now  are depending on Government goodwill and funding to attend a camp in South Africa to shape up for upcoming 2018 Africa Gold Cup cum 2019 World Cup qualifiers.

Pro 14 sees the best teams of Ireland, Wales and Scotland compete in a knock-out tournament featuring guest teams from South Africa and Italy.

As a lead Pro14 partner, SportPesa will gain extensive coverage throughout the tournaments match-day venues and social media platforms. The pan-national rugby union tournament will be broadcast by EIR Sports Ireland and Premier Sports UK.

Diversification

Updating the market, Shaun Simmonds, Head of Marketing for SportPesa commented on the partnership.

“Everyone at SportPesa is incredibly excited about our partnership with PRO14 Rugby.

Whilst we have a strong heritage in the sport, having supported local rugby in East Africa and sponsored the Kenya Rugby Sevens team, this partnership underlines the company’s diversification into Europe and South Africa."

"To be sitting at the top table of the sport alongside some of the most powerful brands on the planet is a testament to the great work my colleagues have done in recent times; we are looking forward to accelerating that growth further thanks to this partnership.”

It has been an incredible season for the Guinness PRO14 after expansion into South Africa providing the catalyst for increased viewership & attendances while growth in social media engagement and video views have more than doubled.
