Rugby teams, schools and tacticians are among those nominated for 2020 edition of Safaricom Sports Personality of the Year (SOYA) Gala set for tonight in Mombasa County.

Kenya Cup champions KCB are up for Sports Team of the year award men’s category against Morans Basketball, Gor Mahia football team and Beach Tennis Team.

Kenya Lionesses, who qualified for Tokyo 2020 Olympics after finishing second at Africa 7s, will face Harambee Starlets, Vihiga Queens, KPA Basketball team and Malkia Strikers in the Sports female team of the year category.

KCB head coach Curtis Olago will be hoping to be named the coach of the year after guiding his side to a third Kenya Cup title in a row.

He, however, faces stiff competition from Malkia Strikers head coach Paul Bitok, Harambee Starlets coach David Ouma, Carey Odhiambo of Kenya Morans and Vihiga Queens coach Alex Sumira.

Soya Awards school coach of the year award sees up to three rugby coaches compete for the award with other disciplines coaches.

Thomas and Victor Walgwe are joined by Kakamega High rugby coach Amos Wamanga.

Victor guided Dagoretti High to Nairobi region title and finished second at National games while Thomas Walgwe led Upper Hill to national sevens title for the first time in history beating Laiser Hill and won East Africa title too.

Kakamega High, Dagoretti, Laiser Hill and Upper Hill are also nominated for the school team of the year award.
