Sportpesa Quins are dealt a huge blow ahead of Christie 7s as Kenya 7s international Frank Wanyama is ruled out for the rest of the season.
Quins sevens coach Victor Sudi confirmed Wanyama is out of the remaining legs, Christie and Dala 7s as a virtue of the injury sustained against Menengai Oilers at Sepetuka 7s.
“We have lost Frank Wanyama for the remainder of the series due to injury and we wish him a quick recovery. It's a big blow for us but we will bunk on the rest of the players to build on the successes and lessons learnt from the previous tournaments to carry us through,” said Sudi.
Quins are however boosted by the availability of returning Uganda 7s players Joseph Aredo and Solomon Okia ahead of their home tournament.
“We have two players (Aredo and Okia) returning from national duty with Uganda 7s and we will look into integrating them back into the playing unit.”
“The team has prepared well and the boys are eager to showcase their talents during Christie 7s which is a home tournament.”
Quins are in pool A of the Christie 7s alongside MKU Thika, Kabras Sugar and Strathmore Leos. “We have been consistent during the series qualifying for all main cup quarterfinals and our main focus is to improve on this and challenge for the main cup trophy on day two.”
“Finally we have the opportunity to play two teams this weekend. This will help us expose more players and give us a strong platform to finish the series strongly,” added Sudi.
