Quins coach readies for Nakuru clash

Sportpesa Quins head coach Joel Ng’ang’a is seeking to improve on his back three before meeting Nakuru RFC on match day two of the Kenya Cup.

Quins lost 41-39 to Homeboyz in their opening match but scored six tries in the defeat more than Homeboyz.

“Not the result we expected we had Homeboyz but a few errors just the same that happened in the floodlights. We still have to work more on that especially on our back three. We were caught twice and that’s how they scored off a counterattack,” Ng’ang’a told Raga House on Tuesday at Quins.

Ng’ang’a however picked positives from a match that he also left with two points for scoring more than four tries and losing with less than seven points.

“The forwards did well; we implemented well, though our line-outs were not as good as they should be. We will polish on that before we meet Nakuru. Just get the team to play again, and improve on our defence because soaking in 41 points is quite a bit. We´ll try and reduce that in Nakuru.”

They meet a Nakuru RFC side that beat Kenya Cup’s new side Kisii RFC 45-15 on match day one. This will be the first real test for the new Nakuru RFC head coach Mitch Ochola as his Quins counterpart admits Nakuru will bring a more aggressive game than the Deejayz.

“Nakuru are aggressive and more structured team than Homeboyz. Going into this season we are focusing more on polishing up how we want to play on our attack and defence and I think we will improve that and and see how Nakuru can react and bring it along.”

Last season’s meeting between the two sides saw Quins beat Nakuru 33-14 at RFUEA grounds.
