The University of Pretoria (Tuks) men’s sevens rugby team’s preparation for the Varsity Tournament starts in earnest on Saturday when the team will be competing in the Christie Sevens Tournament in Nairobi.
TUK, who form a combined team with Blue Bulls, are joined by Russia side Narvskaya Zastava RC as the foreign sides. UP-Tuks Coach Andries Kruger told IOL News that he is confident his side will give a good account of themselves.
“It is going to be all about not making mistakes at crucial times,” said Kruger.
“In sevens rugby that one moment of lapsed concentration could mean the difference between winning and losing. We are going to be a bit on the back foot as all of the teams played a few tournaments already, so they had a chance to test combinations. We are only starting to do so now.”
A statement from Christie 7s hosts Kenya Harlequin said: "the combined side arrive in Nairobi at 10:55 am and will hold a joint training with the hosts Kenya Harlequin FC at 5pm at the RFUEA Grounds. They depart for SA on Monday."
The South Africa side is in pool B with series leaders Homeboyz, Top Fry Nakuru and Menengai Oilers all who have players in the Kenya Sevens team.
