The Kenya Simbas – Tunisia Africa Gold cup clash on Saturday 4 August 2018 will be preceded by a junior tie between a select team from Prescott Cup playing schools and Comras stating 11.30am.
The upcoming tie that gives school lads a rare chance to showcase their skills has been confirmed by the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) via a letter from the desk of the Technical Director Thomas Odundo to the Prescott Cup committee.
“Comras and Prescott Cup combined will provide the perfect atmosphere for the rugby Africa match against Tunisia.” said part of the letter that also confirms the attending students will go on to watch the game of the day that kicks off at 2pm.
Earlier, the Prescott Cup final between Upper Hill and Rift Valley Academy (RVA) had been earmarked to curtain raise the Kenya – Zimbabwe at the same venue on 30 June but it failed to materialize as the game had to be played a day earlier at St. Mary’s.
In its place Damu Pevu final between Dagoretti High and Thika High took place with the latter winning it 39-0 to earn promotion to Prescott Cup.
Ten schools featured in Prescott Cup this year and up to 20 others in the lower tier Damu Devu I and II and the players from the upcoming tie will be drawn from that bracket.
The organizers are however certain to miss the services of players from reigning Prescott Cup champions Upper Hill who will be out in Musanze, Rwanda for the East African School games. The same applies to former Prescott Cup champions Laiser Hill Academy who won this years Damu Pevu II. Upper Hill are the National Schools 15s champions and Laiser Hill the National 7s champions. Also out are players from RVA who are on summer holidays.
Raga House has received a hint that players who were identified during Prescott Cup trials last month as well as others who were picked in the course of the competition between May and June will be rounded up for the upcoming game.
At that, parental consent letters have been dispatched and the earliest the players will converge will be on Friday for residential drills ahead of the Saturday game.
