Ndung'u to take charge of Kenya Cup final show down

Curtains fall on The Kenya Cup 2018/2019 season on Saturday 18th May 2019 after 18 weeks of pitch action in Nairobi, Nakuru and Kakamega. After the semifinals on 11th May, Kabras Sugar RFC and KCB RC will be facing off in the season’s finale – for the third year running, only this year, the venue is the Kakamega Showgrounds.

It is clear in the manual that the “top ranked team in the final” will host it: Last year, KCB who finished top after the regular league season hosted the final at the KCB Sports Club Ruaraka.  This season, Kabras were first on the log thus earning the right to host the final by virtue of being in the final.

The Kenya Rugby Referees Association have appointed the experienced Moses Ndung’u to take charge of the final. His first stint at a final was last year during the Impala Floodlit Tournament. This past weekend he was the center referee in the semifinal clash between KCB and Kenya Harlequins. Moses will have Constant Cap and Godwin Karuga as his Assistant Referees.

Moses started his officiating journey in the age grade rugby level and Damu Changa matches before he joined the Referees Association. Two years later he got the nod to officiate in a Nationwide match and since then it has been gradual growth for him.

Since his induction into the KRRA, he has been one who appreciates feedback;

 “After the match I’d call the referee coaches and senior referees to ask about different instances in the game. They were so kind as to advise me on how to go about it. I have always valued feedback and I would work on it during the week so as not to repeat the same mistake,” said the very jovial Moses Ndung’u.

His first ever final to officiate was the 2014 #Prinsloo7s final and his lesson from that task was that it’s never about him (the match official), it’s about the players and the game.

 “Therefore I strive to better myself everyday so when I take to the field, I give my best in that match, so that at the end of the day, rugby is content.” He concluded.

Noreen Liyosi will officiate the Eric Shirley Shield Final between KCB and Menengai Cream Homeboyz. She will be assisted by Innocent Kimathi and Sammy Ragia while Duncan Kioko will be the center referee of the KRU Championship final between Western Bulls and Kisumu RFC. Kioko’s ARs are Victor Oduor and Bonfotra Alumasa.
