Homeboyz’s Leonard Mugaisi was among four nominees for a local monthly sports personality award for the month of September 2018.

Mugaisi however lost to Olympic Marathon champions Eliud Kipchoge who became the 15th recipient of the award sponsored by Pay TV provider StarTimes.

Mugaisi was nominated for his performances in September that saw him lead his club Homeboyz RFC to Christie 7s title as well as the national sevens circuit. He has since being recalled to the Kenya 7s team after missing out in the 2017/18 season.

The sports personality of the month awards is a partnership between pay television Company StarTimes and Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) to reward all deserving sports personalities on a monthly basis in a bid to bolster the general performance of sport in the country as well as whipping up the enthusiasm of Kenya’s sports men and women in the country.

Others nominated were 14 year old Angela Okutoyi who won the Kenya Open Tennis Championship after beating top seed Shufaa Changawa 6-1 7-6 and Fatuma Zarika who defeated Yamileth Mercado to defend her WBC Female Super Bantamweight Title for a second time.

For his achievement, Kipchoge was awarded with a 43 inch StarTimes Digital TV Set, 100,000 shillings in prize money, and a winner’s gong.
