Mombasa RFC fly-half Elvis Namusasi has been called to the Kenya Simbas squad that will start preparation for repechage tournament set of November in France.
Namusasi, who is currently playing for Daystar Falcons in the national sevens circuit, had a fairly good Kenya Cup campaign with his side even though they suffered relegation last season. He's named in the 33-man squad that will start training on Monday.
He's the only natural fly-half in the squad alongside utility Biko Adema. Darwin Mukidza, who has featured at centre and wing, joins Namusasi in the list of fly-halves.
Regular fly-half Isaac Adimo of Kenya Harlequins is dropped from the squad alongside KCB captain Curtis Lilako, prop Oscar Simiyu, winger Edmund Anya and lock Eric Kerre.
Thomas Okidia of Homeboyz and Ephraim Oduor of Kabras are joined by overall captain Wilson Kopondo as those who return to the squad.
Kenya qualified for repechage by virtue of losing 53-28 in Africa Gold Cup's season finale to Namibia who head to Japan as Africa 1 for the global showpiece set for September 2019.
Assistant coach Dominique Habimana told Raga House that "the changes were all tactical and some players could still return".
Kenya Simbas will kick-off the repechage against Canada on Sunday November 11 at the Stade Delort of Marseille from 6.30pm. That game will be preceded by the clash between Hong Kong and Germany at 4pm.
Six days later, Kenya will play Hong Kong at 4pm Kenyan time -the early kick-off before Canada plays Germany at 6.30pm. Kenya will round off the repechage tournament on Friday November 23 against Germany at 8pm.
Kenya, Canada, Hong Kong and Germany will compete in the round-robin format event to be played across three match days with the winner qualifying for the 2019 World Cup and enter pool B that has New Zealand, South Africa, Italy and Namibia.
