Mayar out, Osir banking on experience

Impala Saracens sevens coach Oscar Osir says they have enough experience to go through pool B of the Christie 7s on Saturday, October 14, 2017, at RFUEA grounds.

Impala is seeded second to play Nakuru RFC, Kisii and Machine after losing Sepetuka 7s final to Kabras in Eldoret with Osir looking forward to yet another Cup win.

“What will always be interesting is every time we meet Resolution Kisii, they will want to justify who needs the bigger share of the sponsorship cake. We have enough experience to go through but if we approach it casually, it will be a tough day one for us,” Osir told ImpalaSaracens.com

“We had a number of new players introduced to the sevens team last week. At the moment, we’ll hold our cards close to our chests. We are trying to make slight adjustments to the team by trying out dynamic combinations. We’ll have a clear idea by Thursday and will communicate them before the start of Christie 7s,” added Osir.

Impala was this week dealt a huge blow as Derrick Mayar suffered a groin injury while training with Kenya 7s with odds not favouring his return this weekend.

“Having a national team player actively playing for the team is an advantage we cannot downplay. He has progressed well from Prinsloo going into Sepetuka. I am however sure Mayar, more than anybody else would want to see another forward take up the chance and express himself. I wish him a quick recovery,”

“At Impala, we try to have a working formula. These are processes that work for us. We develop a protocol that everybody within the system can understand. It does not matter who comes in. All they need to do is understand the processes and systems working within it,” added Osir.

Impala will kick-off Christie 7s against Mean Machine at 10.10am before taking on Kisii at 12.50pm and Nakuru RFC at 4.30pm.
