Defending champions Maseno School are seeded top in the 33rd edition of the Blackrock Rugby Festival to be held on Saturday May 28, 2016 at St.Mary’s School, Nairobi.
Maseno, who beat Strathmore I 28-00 to win the 2015 edition, are joined in pool A by Nairobi County 7s champions Upper Hill and Moi Forces Academy.
Strathmore School and Mutuini are in pool B as former winners Rift Valley Academy join Thika High in Pool C.
Some pools have two teams awaiting confirmation of six more with Langata Secondary, GEMS Cambridge, Ushirika Secondary and Raila Secondary School set to make their debut in the traditional tournament.
“We want to see the youths have alternatives means where they can get to enjoy, it’s also good for their mental and physical growth; rugby also tries to emphasize aspect of team work” said Greg Sang, tournament director and St.Mary’s Principal.
“It’s also a good way of various schools to come and interact and build long lasting relationships that in future they could get to move on with”
Last year’s semifinalists Lenana School and NPC Buruburu headline Pool D, Nairobi School, RVA II and Strathmore II in Pool E and Ofafa Jericho and Dagoretti Hgh in Pool F.
Plate finalists Aquinas are joined in pool G with St.Aloysius who won the Bowl while Saints will play Parklands in pool H.
“In the past years we have seen players come from this tournament going ahead to play for the country and it has really motivated us to continue doing it, it’s a tournament that has a lot of potential to make people start developing their skills and expose them and in future they can be excellent”
