Maseno School Jambazi put a claim to the 33rd edition of St. Mary’s Blackrock Festival, for the first time since 2013, after seeing off Strathmore I 28-00 on Saturday 23 May at the St. Mary’s grounds, Nairobi.
The National Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) 15’s runner up truly dusted themselves up to reclaim the trophy they lost out to the Rift Valley Academy (RVA) last year.
To make the semis, Strathmore I dethroned RVA with a 10-07 win in the semis as Maseno School took down Lenana School 28-0 to march to a third straight final.
A drop goal at the quarter’s stage saw Lenana School make at the semis at the expense of rivals of yore Nairobi School as a converted try left Nairobi County Champions Ofafa Jericho denied a place in the final four by eventual champions Maseno School.
Upper Hill and hosts St. Mary’s fell at the stage of eight after 28-00 and 21-00 losses to RVA I and Strathmore I, respectively.
As Maseno claimed top honors at the tournament first held in 1983 off an initiative by the then Head Master Father Cormac O’Brachlain, Kiambu High claimed the Plate after defeating Aquinas 14-00 in the final while St. Aloysius walked home with the Bowl with a 28-00 clean out of Parklands.
