Laiser Hill lift East Africa 7s title

Laiser Hill Academy added another feather to their cap after scooping the East African Schools Seven's title after a 22-0 win over Uganda's Jinja SS in in Busogo University, Rwanda on Saturday 18 August.

It was their sixth straight win which kept them top of the seven school log that handed them their maiden regional sevens title. They attained 18 points.

On Thursday Laiser Hill - the National 7s champions - hit Rwanda's Aspeka 19-10 then followed it up with a 39-0 rout of Uganda's Mbarara High to make it five straight wins that moved them to the 15-point mark and ever so close to their first regional title.  

The wins added on to three previous wins over 2016 regional 7s winners St. Peter's Mumias, Chavakali and Rwanda's JAM Muhanga.

Chavakali claimed silver after registering two wins on the final day. A 52-0 blanking over Mbarara High was followed by a narrow 12-10 win over Aspeka. They ended up on 15 points, three behind Laiser Hill. 

St. Peter's Mumias who completed their fixtures on Thursday with a 25-0 win over Mbarara High and 12-12 draw with enterprising JAM Muhanga settled for bronze with 13 points. 

JAM Muhanga also ended with 13 points to be placed fourth as Aspeka finished fifth with ten points. Jinja SS was sixth with eight points as Mbarara took the wooden spoon with six points after six straight loses. 

MVP - Nicholas Katu

Laiser Hill not only won the title but provided the Most Valuable Player in Nicholas Katu. Samuel Nirere of Aspeka and Caleb Kosgey of Chavakali High were named the best try scorers with five touchdowns each. 

Rugby 7s games was played in a round robin format and was contested by seven schools; three from Kenya, and two each from Uganda and Rwanda.

Muhuri Muchiri, the champs in 2017 failed to return to the regional showpiece to defend their crown.
