KRU Championship, ESS Finals preview

A duel to complete the 2018/19 KRU Championship league with the ultimate bragging rights pitting Kisumu RFC and Western Bulls, will be the curtain raiser of the season's Kenya Cup final clash at the Kakamega Showgrounds at 2 pm on 18th May 2019.

The two championship sides saw of counterparts, Catholic Monks and USIU in the fight for the finals slots, with Kisumu seeing off Catholic Monks 14-11 in Nairobi while Western Bulls beating USIU 22-16 in their semifinals clash at the Bull Ring, Kakamega.

With these wins the two are firmly set to feature in what will seemingly be a 'devolved' Kenya Cup 2019/20 season to kick off later in the year. Western Bulls last featured at the Kenya Cup in 2016/17 season whilst Kisumu RFC's tenure was in 2014/15

In their place at the championship, universities sides, Strathmore Leos and Mean Machine will feature in the KRU championship league, arguably scaling up the stakes at the second tier league.


Eric-Shirley Shield (ESS) Final

As the western strip host the much awaited encounters, KCB's The Den at Ruaraka will also be homage to the finals of the Eric Shirley Shield (ESS) when KCB II host Homeboyz II.

KCB II will be tasked the onus of defending the cup as they square it out with Homeboyz II and consequently, have the the Cubs second string side close the season unbeaten- if they see off the deejays.

On their way to the finals, KCB II who up until last weekend trailed Kabras Sugar II in the standings, in what was a repeat fixture as was in the 2018 ESS final beat Impala Boks 32-19 stretching their undefeated run. Homeboyz II on the other end saw off a spirited Kabras Sugar II 10-13, at The Forest, Kakamega.
