KRU advertises Kenya 7s coach, TM positions

As had been relayed by Raga House at the weekend, Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) has advertised for the positions of Kenya 7s head coach and team manager currently occupied by Benjamin Ayimba and Newton Ong’alo, respectively whose contracts are set to run out.

A statement released by KRU as regards the positions states; “The Board of the Union is desirous of filling the position of the Head Coach, Kenya Sevens National Team accountable to the Board through the Chief Executive Officer and the Director of Rugby for the effective overall management of the Kenya Sevens Team.”

Ayimba, who coached Kenya 7s between 2006 and 2011 was rehired as Coach about this time last year on a one year contract taking over from Felix Ochieng, who was his assistant in his first tenure.

Former Kenya sevens star Newton Ongalo who served as assistant manager in 2011 came on as the Team Manager, also on a one year deal in place of Steve Sewe who had also applied for the post.

The appointed person will coach the team, on and off the field, to a standard of excellence, demonstrating a significant improvement over each annual period of centralization, enhancing the reputation of the Kenya Rugby Union.

The Head Coach will report to the National Squads Management Committee through the Director of Rugby.

KRU is looking for a coach with a minimum of three years of experience as a head coach in a division one club or elite squad, relevant world rugby qualifications in coaching and demonstration of high ethical standards and integrity in his/her personal and professional dealings.

For the team manager’s position, KRU is looking for a person with a minimum of 3 years of experience as a team manager in a division one club and should be a Kenyan citizen with relevant qualifications in Administration and Management.

Additional selection criteria for Head coach will include:

i. Relevant World Rugby qualifications in Coaching

ii. Demonstration of high ethical standards and integrity in his/her personal and professional dealings. 

iii. Outstanding communication skills, responsive to the needs of the partners and sponsors.

iv. An ability to work independently without supervision but in accordance with documented policy and procedure guidelines;

v. A record of working as a team member, as well as a history of performing in situations that require self-leadership and initiative;

vi. An ability to balance team needs and goals with those of the administration of Kenya Rugby Union; 

vii. Demonstration of a commitment to aspects of high performance, player development and talent identification

viii. A background that displays people management , people leadership skills, attributes and good conduct;

ix. A background that displays excellent stakeholder relations and workplace cooperation; 

x. Able to effectively document plans including season plans, broken down into daily and weekly. All applications must be submitted no later than 30th September 2016

Additional selection criteria for team manager will include:

i. Relevant qualifications in Administration and Management
ii. Demonstration of high ethical standards and integrity in his/her personal and professional dealings.
iii. Outstanding communication skills, responsive to the needs of the partners and sponsors.
iv. An ability to effectively coordinate a diverse technical team to meet all expectations on time.
v. An ability to work independently without supervision but in accordance with documented policy and procedure guidelines;  
vi. A record of working as a team member, as well as a history of performing in situations that require self leadership and initiative;
vii. An ability to balance team needs and goals with those of the administration of Kenya Rugby Union;
viii. A background that displays people management , people leadership skills, attributes and good conduct;  
ix. A background that displays excellent stakeholder relations and workplace co-operation;   
x. Outstanding reporting ability .
