Kitale Rugby Club is on the verge of giving up on their participation in the new season 2018/19 nationwide league claiming lack of funds as the main impediment.
In a statement sent to Ragahouse newsroom by the club Chairman, Ben Amboko sited that they have been forced to contemplate not participating in the league due to unlimited challenges that come with insufficient funds.
"The true position as per now is we have no funds at all.On one hand I know that Kitale rugby players are a greatly resilient lot but on the other hand we cannot operate on autopilot.
We survived and succeeded last season to secure promotion but am hesitant moving forward. It is quite a gamble to run a team with no funds at all."
In the statement, Ben Amboko also decried the lack of goodwill from the local community towards funding for the team's needs.
"We have even stopped training because it costs money for transportation. The players and management have dug so deep into their limited resources so far.The Trans Nzoia local business elite , professionals and the political class have not found it worthwhile supporting and adopting this team.
This predicament is real. We are to face a well sponsored (funded) Kisii, Kisumu, Western Bulls and Mombasa, fully funded University sides and partial funded Pirates and Ngong. We have zero to start with. I have even stopped training because it costs money for transportation. Players have dug so deep into their limited resources so far." Read the chairman's statement.
