Coach Tolbert Onyango has revealed his 12-man squad to represent Uganda in the upcoming Rugby World Cup Sevens set for the AT & T Park in San Francisco, USA from 20-22 July.
Rugby 15s vice-captain Justin Kimono, the man with a devastating take off and speed, has been roped in for the global event as one of two changes from the squad that participated at the Commonwealth games at the Gold Coast, Australia in May.
Aredo, Sebuliba out
The explosive winger will be joined in the squad by Byron Oketayot as the new players in the team replacing Joseph Aredo and injured Lawrence Sebuliba.
Save for the two changes, the rest of the squad remains intact with star man Philip Wokorach and his 'sibling' Michael in the setup as well as Pius Ogena, Adrian Kasito, Solomon Okia, James Odongo and Ivan Magomu. Desire Ayera, Timothy Kisiga and Aaron Ofoyrwoth complete the squad.
Uganda will be making their first ever appearance at the Rugby Sevens World Cup and are in it by merit having won the Africa Cup in October last year. Losing finalists Zimbabwe, as well as South Africa and Kenya who qualified automatically, are the other African sides at the tournament.
Uganda starts off in the pre-round of 16 against Samoa on Friday 20 July. The winner of this duel will proceed to meet England in the round of 16 proper with the loser heading straight to the Bowl.
