Western Region Nationwide League newcomers Kibabii Bulls could not have wished for a better start to life in league rugby than today's stunning 18-16 victory against hosts Webuye RFC.

The Kibabii University side, had to come from behind to beat experienced Webuye, scoring two tries, one conversation and two penalties against Webuye who scored two unconverted tries and two penalties.

Elsewhere, hosts Maseno eased past visitors Mbale RFC, beating them 31-0. The first half saw a remarkably improved Mbale side allow only two unconverted tries for a 10-0 but lost ground in the second half, allowing three converted tries to give seven star Maseno a strong start to the season.

Mbale RFC coach Matayo Mwenesi lauded his boys for showing remarkable progress from last season, daring to go for a win in their next assignment.

"It was a big improvement in terms of results even though we lost. Last season we lost to Maseno 81-0 but we have managed to lower that scoreline and being our first match of the season, we can only aim higher with our next match, targeting a win," he said.
