Kenya Rugby Union is mourning the death of former St.Mary's Yala coach Tim Okullu who died on Thursady December 12, 2019.

"We join the St. Mary's Yala fraternity in mourning the passing of legendary coach Tim Okullu. He was responsible for nurturing plenty of rugby talent from St. Mary's Yala who have featured prominently in the league and for our national teams over the years," tweeted Kenya Rugby Union.

"He was a genius and he made us Machines like he used say every time at training and during tournaments. Personally my fond memory about is in 2009 when he selected me to captain the then Nyanza Province combined secondary schools in the safari 7s where we finished runners up after being beaten by Kakamega High school."

"After the tournament he told me I did a great job and club rugby is calling after highschool and specifically mentioned I must join the likes of Patrice, Eden, Adimo at Quins. Yeah that's the father figure we've lost," added Okoth.

Former Mean Machine chairman Brian Obonyo said: "If ever there was rivalry so fierce yet so healthy, Maseno and Yala exemplified the same.Tim Okullu and his charges pushed us to the brink and sometimes off it.His contribution to the sport both regionally and nationally would forever be remembered. Rugby has lost a stalwart."
