The Kenya Lionesses have missed qualifying for the 2018 Sevens World Cup after losing 12-17 to South Africa in the Women’s Africa 7s on Sunday, September 17, 2017, in Tunisia.

South Africa had taken a lead via an unconverted try but Kenya hit back through Sinaida Aura with Janet Okello scoring late in the first half to lead 12-5. The defending champions, however, replied in the second half with two tries and one conversion to retain the cup and head to the World Cup.

Only one team will represent Africa in the global showpiece going down in July 2018. South Africa has now beaten Kenya for four years in a row including the Olympics qualifiers in 2015.

The Lionesses, however, alongside South Africa qualified for the 2018 Commonwealth Sevens to be held in Australia in April.

To reach the Cup final, Kenya beat Tunisia 26-7 as South Africa saw off Uganda 27-0.
