Kenya Lionesses kicked off the 2021 Women’s Rugby World Cup qualifiers on a high beating Madagascar 35-5 on Friday August 9, 2019 in South Africa.
Kenya ran in six tries against Madagascar’s unconverted try to start the 2019 Africa Women’s 15s on a winning note.
Celestine Masinde, Janet Okello and Captain Phila Olando were on target in the first half as Kenya Lionesses led 17-5 with Irene Otieno converting one try.
Diana Awino landed Kenya’s fourth try before Christabel ‘Tata’ Linda touched down followed by Janet Okello who made it 35-5.
Uganda play South Africa from 4pm Kenyan time.
Kenya’s second game will be against Uganda on August 13 before taking on hosts South Africa on August 17.
The winner of the tournament will qualify directly to the World Cup while the second best team will play a match against a selected team from South America and join the global repechage tournament if victorious.
