New Kenya Cup season kicked off on Saturday, Feb 27 with all home teams- Oilers, KCB, Kabras and Nakuru- bagging home wins.
Oilers welcomed Quins in Nakuru with a 39-13 beating in the early kick-off running seven tries and one conversion. Timothy Okwemba bagged a hattrick to add to Steve Austin, Geoffrey Omonde, Steve Arunga and Emmanuel Mulindo's try. Abutali Wesonga could only convert one.
The other game held in Nakuru saw Top Fry Nakuru bag a routine win over Blak Blad beating the KU side 13-8. Nakutru's next game is still a home fixture against MMUST while Blak Blad will host Oilers.
In Kakamega, Kabras were too good for the new boys MMUST in the Lurambi derby winning 56-0 at the Kakamega Showground.
Alfred Orege, debutant Jeanson Musoga, Walter Okoth, Dan Sikuta, Felix Ayange and Brian Juma went over for Kabras who led 39-0 at the interval with Brian Tanga, Derrick Ashiundu and Kevin Wekesa adding more in the second half.
Kabras Sugar’s next game is a trip to the capital to face Strathmore Leos while MMUST will be on the road to Nakuru RFC.
In Nairobi, champions KC required second-half tries from Geoffrey Okwach and Michael Wanjala to put off a spirited Strathmore Leos who led 12-16 in the opening stages of the second half.
The bankers can make it two on the bounce when they visit cross-town rivals Kenya Harlequin next week while Leos face another task hosting 2016 champions Kabras Sugar.
