Kenya 7s winger relocates to USA

Menengai Oilers are set to be without winger Samuel Njenga Ngethe Muregi aka Smurf who has relocated to the United States of America (USA).

Oilers head coach Gibson Weru told Raga House that Smurf left for the US immediately after the Sevens World Cup held in July in San Francisco, USA to join his family.

Due to his relocation he missed the entire six-part 2018 national sevens circuit and ultimately missed out on making it to the Kenya Sevens squad for 2018/19 HSBC World Sevens Series that has already been named. 

The former Masaku RFC and Aviators winger has played 15 times for Kenya Sevens since making his debut last season. He scored four tries for Kenya 7s through-out last season. 

He played at Vancouver 7s final but missed the Asian tour that included Commonwealth Games. 

Muregi, alongside club-mate Eric Ombasa made their debut at the World Rugby Sevens Series at Cape Town 7s in December 2017 when they were called in to replace injured Collins Injera and Dennis Ombachi.

Smurf was a member of the Kenya 7s squad  coached by Innocent Simiyu's assistant William Webster that struck Gold after clawing host Zimbabwe 10-5 in the final of Victoria Falls 7s in Harare in March this year.

He was part of the Menengai Oilers squad that made history by earning promotion to the Kenya Cup at the first time of asking by qualifying for the second tier KRU Championship final against Mean Machine in May.
