Kenya 7s received a Sh14 million sponsorship boost from #ChukuaSelfie for the remaining four legs of the 2018/19 HSBC World Sevens Series -Hong Kong, Singapore, Paris and London.
A statement sent to the newsroom on Friday said:
“Chukua Selfie, a Menstar coalition campaign encouraging 18-24 year old men to know their HIV status through self-test, has entered into partnership with the Kenya Rugby Union as a Shirt sponsor for the two legs of the World Rugby Sevens Series 2018/19 season.“
The KShs14 Million deal will see Chukua Selfie sponsor the Hong Kong/Singapore and London/Paris legs. This partnership will see the Shujaa front of shirt branded with the Chukua Selfie.

This week, captain Jeff Oluoch had his shirt written ‘Chuku Selfie’ during the Hong Kong 7s captain’s photo shoot.
“This sponsorship is timely, and it will enable us meet priority needs for Shujaa as they take on the world this season. We are also aware of the importance of promoting self-testing for both our players and fans. This is why we gladly accepted this partnership,” said Oduor Gangla, the newly elected KRU Chairman.
Chukua Selfie Brand representative Eric Achola said: “We chose rugby because it is widely followed by our target audience, we want to remind all the young men that even as they have fun they need to do so responsibly.”
Kenya has been without a sponsor for the opening six legs of the 2019 season leading to the team losing a few senior players due to contract issues.
Kenya Sevens will kick-off Hong Kong 7s against Fiji at 2.37pm on Friday April 5, 2019 in Hong Kong. Kenya is banded in pool C of the seventh leg of 2018/19 HSBC World Sevens Series alongside New Zealand, Australia and Fiji.
Kenya’s second match will be against New Zealand at 7.51am on Saturday before closing pool matches against Australia at 11.33am also on Saturday morning.
