Keegan to leave Quins

Kenya Harlequins are set to lose services of fullback Kevin Keegan to rivals Kabras Sugar as the latter continues to strengthen the squad.

Raga House understands Keegan is set to follow his former director of rugby Charles Cardovillis to Kabras where he is now the head coach. The deal will be completed once the transfer window opens, according to the source.

If completed, this will be the signing of the season due to what Keegan brings to Kabras having excelled at Quins where he was the top point scorer.

Keegan had a total of 124 points from four tries, 34 conversions and 12 penalties as Quins reached Kenya Cup semis. Pius Shiundu, the closest scorer to Keegan, had 58 points.

Keegan was third in the league, two points behind Blak Blad’s Levy Amunga with Darwin Mukidza topping with 170 points.

Keegan’s move to Kabras is understood to have been contributed by the fact that Brian Tanga is involved with Kenya Sevens making him miss the better part of the season.

Kabras already have Ugandan international Philip Wokorach who is a lethal fullback and Keegan’s signing may see one of them deployed at position 10. Flying Fijian Jone Kubu is also good in both positions and this is only getting better for Cardovillis. Kubu was named the Man of the Match during 2016’s Kenya Cup final against Impala.
