A weekend of many firsts continued again today as JKUAT defeated Ngong RFC 15-6 to pick up its first Championship win in a Sunday evening clash played at the JKUAT Grounds.
After South Coast Pirates and the University of Eldoret also won their first matches in the only fixtures played yesterday, it became the turn of either JKUAT to kickstart their respective campaigns before the new year.
The result saw JKUAT climb to eighth on the log while Ngong stayed sixth while former Kenya Cup side Catholic Monks slipped into the bottom two as a result of Sunday’s outcome.
Pirates defeated Catholic Monks 31-24 in Ukunda while UoE edged Kisumu 13-10 in Eldoret. The other matches pitting the remaining teams were postponed. Pharis Mbadi and Eugene Asava scored first-half tries to put the hosts in the driving seat as Ngong were kept tryless throughout. Asava contributed five more points through the boot while Ngong were kept within touching distance by penalties from Gabriel Obulo.
