Homeboyz II beat hosts Impala II 17-35 to progress to the semifinals of the 2019 Mwamba Cup at Impala Club on Wed March 13.
Centre Victor Omondi confirmed Impala’s exit from the Mwamba Cup when he coasted into the try box at the 70th minute. His try was converted by Wafula.
The Deejayz ran in five tries, two of which were converted and two penalties against Impala’s three touch downs and one conversion. The 6pm clash was set to be played last weekend but postponed as Impala could not honour the match due to the burial of their former fullback Richard Sidindi.
Homeboyz II proceed to face Kabras Sugar II in the semis set for Saturday April 13, hosted by Kabras.
Paul Akatch, Amon Wafula(2), Brian Songoi and Kevin Agwambo went over for Homeboyz as David Moenga and Antony Odhiambo (2) scored for the home side. Wafula kicked in a penalty and a conversion as Brian Ayimba also successfully converted.
Impala Saracens director of rugby Fred Ollows blamed his defence for the loss among other things as quoted by impalasaracens.com.
“Our record in Mwamba Cup has not been impressive over the years. Our defence fell apart. Our kick off receipt was also not up to the mark. It is good we have spotted our errors during this midweek contest.”
“It has opened our eyes to what needs fixing before we face Nakuru in the ESS competition this Saturday 16th March 2019 at the Impala Club.”
Both sides now turn focus on the Eric Shirley Shield round of 13 this weekend where Impala II will host Nakuru II while Homeboyz II will face Mwamba II.
