Scrum-Half Goddfrey ‘Jatelo’ Okoth is set to return to action for the first time in one year when Kenya Harlequin II host Shamas Rugby Foundation in the first round of the 2020 Mwamba Cup on Sat Feb 8 at RFUEA Grounds.
Okoth has been out through injury that saw him serve as a team manager during the national sevens circuit. He would be handed a 12-ban week from all rugby activities by Kenya Rugby Union following the outcome of their misconduct case.
“I’m back to make the Mwamba Cup team on my way to making sure we don’t get relegated by making at least the last round of matches,” said Okoth.
“It feels good to be back though I’m still not 100% after my knee injury but I want to enjoy training and playing waiting for next season.”
“We won’t be relegated.”
Okoth will come from the bench to replace scrum-half Ambrose Curtis who is named as the day’s vice-captain.
Iddi Kakai and Pius Shiundu start on the wing, Brian Onyiego at fullbacl, Mark Onsando at fly-half while Wayne Mung’ei and Newton Pertet start at second row.
Winner between Quins II and Shamas Rugby will take on Strathmore II or Nondies II in the quarters.
