Mombasa RFC will not seek Kenya Cup promotion, at least for the 2019/2020 season, after pulling out of the 2019 Championship playoffs set to kick-off on Saturday April 27.

Mombasa, who played in the Kenya Cup during the 2017/18 season, will not be able to honor their Championship quarterfinal tie against Western Bulls on Saturday according to team manager Kevin Odhiambo.

"We are not in a position to honor the game because of unavoidable circumstances from our end. We are more gutted than anybody else."

Mombasa qualified for Championship playoffs after finishing sixth with 37 points, five above seventh placed Kisii RFC. Kisii will definitely feel gutted that Mombasa will not honor the fixture.

This development means Western Bulls are a step away from returning to the Kenya Cup. The walkover from Mombasa sees Bulls book USIU in the semis with the winner set to qualify for 2019/2020 Kenya Cup.
