Impala Saracens captain Duncan Ekasi says they are targeting a top-two finish in the 2017/18 Kenya Cup season that starts this Saturday.
Ekasi led Impala to Floodies final last Saturday losing to reigning Kenya Cup champions KCB.
“To some extent, this result will help us plan for the season. This season we are going for the jugular, since it’s a one-off all we need to do is to make sure we pick up from this week, win our first four games, come January we need to be on an upward trajectory,” Ekasi told Raga House.
In the 18-17 to KCB, Impala scored one penalty and a converted try in the first half before adding a converted try in the second half.
“It was a game I can’t even say two halves, at the beginning of the first half we were slow off the blocks I guess because we only had one game under the belt then when we came to the second half as much as we had possession in the first 20 minutes the yellow card that we had we tried scrambling, they scored and that was it.”
Last season saw Impala reach Kenya Cup quarters but Ekasi says this season they are more precise like in 2016.
“The difference is last season we were not precise, this year is going to be intentional we going to be precise because we want a home semi-final,” added Ekasi.
After the opening game against Mombasa RFC at home, Impala visit Mwamba and Homeboyz before hosting Nondies.
