Christie 7s champs Kabras start off with Machine

Reigning Christie Sevens champions Kabras Sugar will start their title defense with the first game of the event against Mean Machine at the RFUEA grounds on Saturday 15 September, 2018 starting 9.10am.

In last year’s Christie 7s held at the same grounds in mid-October, Kabras Sugar - then coached by Charles Cardovillis - stepped up from a 7-0 deficit to claw Impala 19-7 to retain their 2016 title.

A Leo Seje try and Mark Kwemoi conversion took Impala ahead 7-0 but Kabras capitalized on an Ian Minjire sin bin with a try from Ugandan star Philip Wokorach to trail 7-5 at half time. Dan Sikuta and Malik Habil each scored a try in the second half, Wokorach topping each with extras for the win.

The opening game will pave way for series chasing Mwamba who will face Russian side Narvskaya Zastava in the second game starting 9.30pm that will complete pool A's opening round.

Mwamba are fresh from winning Dala 7s in the ended weekend and with 92 points are all out for the Christie 7s title that could, baring other unfavorable results to their opponents, deliver the overall National Sevens Circuit title.

A Nakuru derby between 2017 Bronze winner Nakuru and Menengai Oilers will usher in pool B action thereafter before series leaders Homeboyz face off with South African outfit Blue Bulls & TUKS Combined. Homeboyz are currently on 100 points must have a good day one and seek a cup semis berth on day two to recalim the overall title since 2016.

Hosts Harlequins, fourth in last year’s edition, will open up pool C action against Northern Suburbs at 10.30 as Nondies and Kisii activate pool D from 11.10.

Key games are reserved for the afernoon; Kabras vs Mwamba tie at 3.10, Homeboyz vs Nakuru at 3.50pm, Impala vs Harlequins at 4.30pm and KCB vs Nondies at 5.10pm.
