Five matches were played in the KRU Championship’s match-day 13 with MMUST, Kisii RFC, Egerton and Catholic all bagging wins on Sat March 16, 2019.
Catholic was the only side to win away beating Mombasa RFC 15-16. Matches featuring USIU and hosts South Coast Pirates was postponed while UoE vs Kitale RFC was abandoned according to Kitale manager Ben Amboko but UoE was awarded a 13-3 as per the communication from Kenya Rugby Union.
Egerton tweeted: “Sweet victory at the Nest as ex-captain Jack gave us the first try followed by a penalty that gave us an 8-0 lead at half time. Two more tries by Barry and assistant captain Bram and magic feet Ndege with his DG, Conversions and penalties ensured the win was sealed at 31-5 at FT.”
MMUST bagged the second biggest win of the weekend beating former Kenya Cup side Kisumu RFC 41-20 in Masinde Muliro.
Kisii RFC stopped Western Bulls bagging a 11-8 win with the latter picking a losing bonus. Bulls and Kisii held each other 5-5 at the interval before moving to 8-8 and eventually Kisii kicking to win 11-8.
Catholic Monks go top with 48 points as Bulls drop to second with 46. USIU stay third with 40 with a game in hand while MMUST’s win over Kisumu sees them climb to fifth with 29 points, two above Mombasa who lost to Monks and drop to seventh.
Egerton move to 9th with 24 points leapfrogging Kitale as Kisii climb to sixth with 28 points.
