Willy Ambaka’s Manawatu Turbos let a 14-13 lead at the break slip to 20-17 defeat to Bay of Plenty on Friday at CET Arena.
Bay of Plenty secured a penalty try in the 76th minute after Manawatu were found guilty of collapsing the scrum.
New Zealand sevens star Joe Webber scored a stunning try off a set piece move from an attacking line-out, he weaved and stepped his way through the Turbos' defence to go under the posts late in the first half.
The win sees Bay of Plenty rack up their second win of the season and furthered their top four credentials, while Manawatu are now in danger of slipping of the pace.
Bay of Plenty face Waikato next Saturday at FMG Stadium in Hamilton.
