Kenya Harlequin head coach Charles Cardovillis confirmed winger Willy Ambaka is set to miss the remainder of the season after sustaining an injury against Impala Saracens during last weekend’s Kenya Cup quarters.
The Kenya 7s Olympian suffered a Metatarsal fracture in the latter stages of the Ngong road derby 29-24 win over Impala.
Cardovillis told Raga House on Friday that Ambaka “underwent surgery this week” and he’s set to be out “for six to eight weeks.”
“It’s a blow. He’s a leader at the club but knowing him he’ll be back bigger and stronger.”
Ambaka hasn’t played for Kenya 7s in the 2019 HSBC World Sevens Series but has featured for Quins in the Kenya Cup helping his side reach semis.
If Quins reach Enterprise Cup and Kenya Cup final, Ambaka will have to watch from the stands. Only Kabras and KCB stand on Quins way as far reaching finals in both competition is concerned.
Ugandan Daudi Ssemwami takes Willy Ambaka’s position for Saturday’s clash against Kabras Sugar from 4pm, LIVE on Bamba Sport.
