All set for Embu 7s launch

The third edition of Embu 7s will be launched on Saturday June 9, 2018 at Moi Stadium, Embu town from 10am.

Embu RFC chairman Moses Mukabane says up to 14 teams have confirmed so far for the Sevens event set for June 23, 2018 at the same stadium.

"We plan to launch Embu 7s on Saturday at Embu stadium where will also be unveiling kit for the tournament. The team will also have a short touch rugby to feel the pitch," said Mukabane.

He adds that  the tournament will kick-off on Friday with Schools competition as they target to have 16 elite teams for division 1.

Embu County is the home to School rugby powerhouse Kangaru School.

In 2017, Samurai Sevens beat Nationwide side Northern Suburbs Cubs 20-7 to lift the Embu 7s title. They ran in four tries four unconverted tries against Suburbs' converted touch down. 

Other teams that graced the 2017 event include Nondies, Strathmore Leos, Kiambu RFC, Catholic Monks, Chuka Vikings, Meru RFC Siakago Gorillas and Rwika. 

Embu RFC is a Kenya Rugby Union affiliate that competes in the Central nationwide league that involves teams from Central province and Upper Eastern.
